Are Home Inspections a Waste of Money?

When buying a home there are a lot of mandatory upfront costs-the down payment, lawyer fees, an appraisal, setting up utility accounts, property taxes, and one optional payment, a home inspection. If you're buying a home you might ask yourself is a property inspection really worth the money? Or what am I even paying for?
At Grande Prairie Home Inspection company, Expert Home Inspections, we believe you are paying for peace of mind! A home is a huge financial investment, we want to give you the confidence to know what you're investing in. If you think you're moving into a move-in ready family home but it has $15,000 worth of necessary repairs hidden behind the walls, you should know that! Or if you are buying a home knowing it needs renovations but it requires additional work you didn't account for, we want you to know.
Our hope for every inspection is that we find nothing major, however that's usually not the case.
We also believe you are paying for education! With extensive home building experience our trustworthy Home Inspector, Daniel Miller, knows what he is looking at. As he walks through the home (preferably with the future homeowner) he can educate the homebuyer on the property. He gives tips on how to adjust cabinet doors or test if the sump pump is working. He is there to be your home advisor, answering any home structure or maintenance questions you may have!
Lastly, we believe you are paying for safety. Although a home can look beautifully renovated or in great condition it might not be what you think it is. We recently inspected a fully renovated property that had poly-b plumbing hidden in the walls, this is known to fail. At another property we found an electrical breaker that is banned in the United States due to how often it causes fires. Our goal is to thoroughly inspect the property so that you know what you're buying.
Although, it can feel like a "waste of money" when nothing shows up on the inspection report, we believe this is the best case scenario. That means that you paid a few hundred dollars to have peace of mind, and a home that you can feel safe in for many years!
